This Word, God’s living Word, empowers us to accomplish the works and ministries that God calls us to do. God not only calls us but He also equips, He not only equips but as we read in Acts chapter 1 He also empowers.

The Bible fixes our faith and confidence in Him and His delegated authority to us as we grow in our understanding of His message (Scripture). God empowers us through His Holy Spirit with boldness to proclaim and to demonstrate with His supernatural power. The word then brings the authority and understanding to exercise that God given power. As I read I discover more and more of the inheritance that is ours, both the promise and the provocation to step out in faith that men might see God at work in their lives just as God has also worked in our lives.

To those who believe, those who understand that they are called by Him through faith in Him, there is a realisation that we are children of the living God. As children we are heirs of the eternal kingdom, Christ being our pattern, the firstborn who has gone before us. We then must also rise in the revelation and understanding that the children of God are supernatural children, empowered with Kingdom authority to fulfil Kingdom purposes. We are to be the demonstration of God, Christ’s witnesses, not just with vain repetition of words but with bold confidence in the eternal truth by which we are called. The word itself evident, replete with power and authority, because of the active faith with which it is mingled. We bring our faith in Him to bare upon the word which is so full of divine power and suddenly those words reveal the dynamic potency that is held within. In this way as we speak, proclaim, declare and believe the word that we have laid hold of, that word which must also be permitted to lay hold of us. So then our confidence and faith become an active ingredient in this divine mystery and our faith, as we are told, comes from hearing the word of God. As we read the command to go, the direction to pray, to heal, to deliver, we must come to the realisation that Christ has not only called and sent us into the ‘harvest’, the mission fields at home or abroad but He has also given us the authority, His authority, to do the thing that He sends us to do! The One who declared all authority has been given to Me is also the One through the Word who delegates to each one of us that same authority to fulfil our mission and purpose. That is why God declares that His word will accomplish the purpose for which it was sent. When we align ourselves with that word we align ourselves with the authority and declaration that the word will not fail, because God never fails. Take a moment to consider this week how the word is at work in your life.

. “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55v11. It’s almost as if every word that God has spoken is actively at work as an agent of His divine will and purpose. God’s word performing His will for Him. Think of it like this, every word that God has spoken is loaded, charged, pregnant with divine power and authority. The ultimate demonstration of this is the word becoming flesh and living amongst us, a living breathing human man (John 1). However let’s not become so focused on that one aspect as to miss the bigger picture, God’s word is powerful because it has come from Him. That word loses none of it’s power or authority when it is echoed, repeated by believers who quote that word. That is why praying in line with God’s word and quoting scripture (reminding God of His word) is so affective. When we allow God’s word to reach into our thoughts and hearts it has a transformational affect. We begin to change as long as we don’t resist the influence of His word, we find our thoughts and actions becoming more like the very word’s we read in scripture. When we share the words of scripture, sharing them with others, proclaiming them in prophetic declarations in our prayer and intercession we release the power and potential of that word into the lives of others. This word, God’s word, is so powerful and it is so important that we do not underestimate the purposeful intention for which God has given it. Believe me when I say, “God’s word is a life changing, soul moving, world altering declaration of His divine will.

When God spoke creation into being as described in Genesis chapter 1 we get a glimpse of the true nature of divine authority. God's word works not only in the visible and the realm of human thought but even at the molecular level, nothing is beyond the reach of God's word and His purposes. Let's learn to have great confidence in this life giving, world changing soul saving word that enacts the will and power of the Kingdom of God.

A written declaration of God’s light in the darkness is a good way to describe the Bible. After all Psalm 119v105 says “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” So what do we mean when we say the ‘Word’ is a light? We are of course speaking about understanding, about enlightenment. Without the guidance of scripture what hope do we have of navigating through the darkness of uncertainty to find peace, blessing and assurance> So by reading the Bible we gain insight, helpful guidance, on how to deal with life's challenges, how to live a life that will bring blessing from God. This thought goes much further as we consider that there is not only an earthly (corporeal) application, there is also the spiritual dimension to consider. It is particularly in the realm of spiritual matters that the bible becomes an illuminating guide. Through the Bible verses we find direction to God’s salvation, and His word proclaims that there is only one way. So whilst the Bible is full of practical help and guidance for those who care to look, it is also filled with revelation and insight into the person and nature of God. It is God’s way of stepping into the light so that we might see Him through His Son Jesus Christ. How amazing that God not only makes a way to Him for us as lost humanity but He then lights the way through spiritual instruction so we can clearly see which way to go. It is true that we need the help of His Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth, after all so many have read the Bible with closed hearts and fixed perspectives and have been left wanting. If we want the word to light our way we must open our hearts and be willing to trust Him. To take God at His word. When we do we discover the brightness of God's revelation, exposing for us the path that leads to eternal life, the road that brings joy and peace and the One who provides for us comfort and assurance along life's journey.
