A written declaration of God’s light in the darkness is a good way to describe the Bible. After all Psalm 119v105 says “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” So what do we mean when we say the ‘Word’ is a light? We are of course speaking about understanding, about enlightenment. Without the guidance of scripture what hope do we have of navigating through the darkness of uncertainty to find peace, blessing and assurance> So by reading the Bible we gain insight, helpful guidance, on how to deal with life's challenges, how to live a life that will bring blessing from God. This thought goes much further as we consider that there is not only an earthly (corporeal) application, there is also the spiritual dimension to consider. It is particularly in the realm of spiritual matters that the bible becomes an illuminating guide. Through the Bible verses we find direction to God’s salvation, and His word proclaims that there is only one way. So whilst the Bible is full of practical help and guidance for those who care to look, it is also filled with revelation and insight into the person and nature of God. It is God’s way of stepping into the light so that we might see Him through His Son Jesus Christ. How amazing that God not only makes a way to Him for us as lost humanity but He then lights the way through spiritual instruction so we can clearly see which way to go. It is true that we need the help of His Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth, after all so many have read the Bible with closed hearts and fixed perspectives and have been left wanting. If we want the word to light our way we must open our hearts and be willing to trust Him. To take God at His word. When we do we discover the brightness of God's revelation, exposing for us the path that leads to eternal life, the road that brings joy and peace and the One who provides for us comfort and assurance along life's journey.
